Csaba Molnár and his team.: POTMEHÚD

Contemporary dance

It’s a performance where dancers rediscover and restore folk dance. The performers dust off and prepare the dance and revive the pure power of unchained vernacular production and natural non-aesthetic kind of performance. Focusing on the essence of the folk dance they create their own version inspired by the vivacious and high-spirited energy of the dance.

Each dancer brings their own personality and experience into the performance thus creating individual scenes which alternate between amusing and dramatic on the one hand and emotive and cynical on the other. Slyboots is a real production not by its focus on technical details but for the reason of inviting viewers to take part and share the spirit of the community right here and right now.

* Potmehúd is an expression in Slovak language

”The beauty of folk dance lies in the ability to connect people during the dance in the way that on a human and social level they communicate instinctively by using their body. In this way they not only are freeing themselves and lifting their spirit but they also are strengthening their bonds with the community,” said Mr. Molnár.

The performance has been inspired by the production of Journey Home presented by Les Slovaks Dance Collective at Hybaj ho! Festival in 2010. Each performance will be accompanied by a special visitor who will mingle into the play and dance.
