Contemporary dance

The coffeemaker is on. The coffee is flowing. Kaffee! The women are sitting down. They are gossiping. Klatsch! Kaffeeklatsch. Theatre performance involving dance, acrobatics and coffee, performed by the popular trio Holektiv.

“Ah! How sweet coffee tastes,
more delicious than a thousand kisses,
mellower than muscatel wine.
Coffee, coffee I must have,
and if someone wishes to give me a treat,
Ah, just give me some coffee!”

– (J. S. Bach, Kaffeekantate BWV 211)

* The term Kaffeeklatsch, or gossiping over coffee, dates back to the first half of the 19th century. In that time, women couldn’t visit public cafés, so they started to meet alternately in their homes where they would drink coffee and chat. Men started to call this custom Kaffeeklatsch.
